And there it comes SecurIT: New industrial value chain for Safe, Secure and Resilient Cities and Territories is an EU-funded project aiming to create a new global competitive security industry (product & service) by supporting a better integration of innovative security systems.

SecurIT’s ambitious goal is to address multiple key gaps by supporting the development and the integration of innovative security solutions.

In a new global competitive industrial & service value chain SecurIT shall identify future security solutions needs and use cases related to specific test beds by selecting and supporting up to 21 new project solutions that will develop new and innovative prototypes. We are looking for consortia composed of at least 2 SMEs, Member State of the European Union or Associated countries of H2020, where at least one of the SME should be a technology/IT solution provider.

SecurIT aims to focus on increasing the security of current applications, services and infrastructures by integrating state-of-the-art security solutions or processes, supporting the creation of lead markets & market incentives in Europe.

Following an end-user driven approach, SecuriT will be facing three different challenges:

#Domain 1 Sensitive infrastructure protection: The security of sensitive sites is a major concern, confirmed by recent events, in a context of social unrest, terrorist threats and even a pandemic

#Domain 2 Disaster Resilience: Need of instruments for better prevention and preparedness, technologies for first and second responders and where relevant for citizens, and overall societal resilience.

#Domain 3 Public spaces protection-major events: A more connected city, integrating Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing and Big Data, where the population takes on a more active role in serving the community.

From the 25th of January 2022 at 13:00 CET (Brussels Time) until the deadline: 26 April 2022 at 17:00 CEST (Brussels Time) SecurIT will run the open call to select and support up to 21 projects aiming to develop new prototypes or demonstrators in the security and cybersecurity domain.

During the session with specialists, there will be perovided some relevant information:

If your peropposal is selected, you will receive a fixed lump sum of:

• Up to €74.000 per project (with a maximum up to €60.000 per SME under Prototyping Instrument, including Jury Day mini-grant),
• Up to €88.000 per project (with a maximum up to €60.000 per SME under Demonstration Instrument, including Jury Day mini-grant).

Also, during the Webinar up to 10 participants will be allowed to give 3 minutes pitch of their project idea in order to find a partner.

STARLIGHT, an innovation project backed by the European union that aims enhance the EU’s strategic autonomy in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) for law enforcement agencies (LEAs), started the 1st of October 2021.

The launch of STARLIGHT (Sustainable Autonomy and Resilience for LEAs using AI against High priority Threats) was officially marked the 6th and 7th October 2021 at a kick-off meeting held in Paris, France.

STARLIGHT is a four-year collaborative innovation project coordinated by CEA (The French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission) that aims to improve the widespread understanding of legal and ethical usage of AI across law enforcement agencies, reinforcing their investigative and cybersecurity operations and helping them to combat the misuse of AI-supported crime and terrorism.

For the next four years, 52 partners representing 18 European countries, including 15 LEAs from 13 countries, will be working together to develop a new sustainable community. They will build a cohesive and strategic landscape that delivers interoperable and trustworthy AI solutions that uphold ethical and societal values to tackle high priority threats for all LEAs across Europe.

The partners designed STARLIGHT to build capabilities and capacities in AI within LEAs, but also within research and industry organizations who support LEAs.

“Our main goal is to enhance the EU’s strategic autonomy in the field of AI for LEAs. To do so, we will create more effective and efficient collaboration channels between EU Agencies, LEA, research organizations, small and medium enterprises and other business actors. Thus, we will improve the global European response to criminal threats and contribute to the establishment of a strong EU AI-based security industry” says Dr Nizar Touleimat, from CEA.

The main outcomes expected from this ambitious project are:

• • the improvement and enrichment of LEAs’ knowledge and awareness of how AI can reinforce their operational and cybersecurity capabilities, • the development of a cybersecurity strategy and of the associated effective measures to proactively protect AI LEA solutions against cyber threats (including provision for trustworthy AI), • the delivery of a framework as environment for multi-stakeholder, collaborative AI analytics, • and the creation of the European AI hub for LEAs as the centre of gravity for the European AI for LEA vision.
• STARLIGHT has a duration of 48 months, starting from the 1st of October 2021, and a total budget of 18.8 million euros, of which 17.0 million euros funded by the European Union
